Measuring Completed Work: Baselines, Assisted Hours and Business Outcomes

A team can generate thousands of prompts without improving a single core process. Another uses AI rarely but saves hours in contract review. Microsoft increasingly measures Copilot value by completed work and assisted hours instead of activity. Its internal guidance recommends baselines for painful processes before the rollout. In this article, I describe a three-layer measurement model of adoption signals, time and effort indicators and business outcomes, and explain why role-based deployment makes value measurable.

Evaluating Models Instead of Benchmarks: Model Choice in Copilot

Microsoft 365 Copilot now offers more models, including Anthropic models and new frontier reasoning options for agentic work. A sales summary, a policy review and a multi-step agent workflow place different demands on a model. Enterprises do not want endless model sprawl. They want controlled choice inside a governed platform. In this article, I explain why structured evaluation matters more than benchmark narratives and how organizations can group use cases for their model strategy.

Domain Exclusion in Practice: Ownership, Maintenance and Limits

AI governance used to ask whether employees may use AI and which model is approved. Today, organizations need finer controls, including which external sources may influence Copilot answers. Domain exclusion lets admins exclude up to 1,000 websites from web grounding in Microsoft 365 Copilot. The scope is limited to web page results, and the list is maintained via PowerShell and CSV. In this article, I explain why source controls shape answer quality and who in the organization should own the exclusion list.

Copilot Tasks: AI That Works in the Background and Asks Before Acting

With Copilot Tasks, AI works in the background with its own browser, runs tasks once, on a schedule or recurring, and reports back when the work is done. Before sending messages or spending money, it asks for consent. Tasks starts as a research preview. The signal for enterprises is clear: users will soon expect AI to do things, not only to describe them. In this article, I explain which tasks suit this execution model, where approval boundaries belong and how to measure success.

Microsoft Scout in Preview: Admin Enablement, Policies and Attestation

Microsoft Scout is an always-on personal agent in Teams, Outlook, OneDrive and SharePoint, powered by Work IQ. In the preview, it is off by default and requires admin enablement, policy configuration and explicit attestation, because data may leave Microsoft 365. Microsoft thus treats persistent agents as a capability close to identity, policy and device management, not as a convenience feature. In this article, I explain what always-on AI requires from governance and user experience and how organizations can prepare.

Event-Driven Tasks, Skills and Browser Use in Copilot Cowork

Microsoft 365 Copilot has passed 30 million paid seats. The product direction says more than the seat count: Copilot Cowork now supports event-driven tasks, custom skills, plugins, browser use in Microsoft Edge and usage-based billing. Work can therefore start when an email, a Teams message or an @mention arrives, not only when a user opens a chat. In this article, I explain what event-driven and composable AI change for enterprises and how to measure value at the workflow level.
