That is strategically important because the value of AI often disappears in the gaps between moments of interaction. That last point is especially important.

A lot of AI disappointment in enterprises comes from the gap between impressive demos and messy reality. Real work is fragmented. It lives in calendars, inboxes, chats, shared files, notes, business systems, and half-finished drafts. I do not think the significance of Scout is that it introduces a flashy new category name.

I think the significance is that it points to where enterprise AI may be heading next.

The first phase of workplace AI was largely about answers. The second phase is moving toward actions. The next phase may be about presence.

Presence means AI is not only available when called. It remains connected enough to support continuity, highlight what matters next, and help work progress across time.

If Microsoft can make that model practical inside Microsoft 365, it could strengthen its position in a very meaningful way. Not because users want more AI surfaces, but because they want less lost context, fewer manual restarts, and better continuity across the day.

That is a more durable value proposition than novelty.
