Measuring Completed Work: Baselines, Assisted Hours and Business Outcomes

A team can generate thousands of prompts without improving a single core process. Another uses AI rarely but saves hours in contract review. Microsoft increasingly measures Copilot value by completed work and assisted hours instead of activity. Its internal guidance recommends baselines for painful processes before the rollout. In this article, I describe a three-layer measurement model of adoption signals, time and effort indicators and business outcomes, and explain why role-based deployment makes value measurable.

Adobe, Figma, monday.com in Copilot: Fewer Handoffs Between Tools

Since April, apps such as Adobe Express, Figma, Miro, monday.com, Box and Dynamics 365 can appear as interactive experiences directly inside Microsoft 365 Copilot. Users act in the conversation instead of switching to the next tool. The change is unspectacular, but it removes a daily source of friction: the step between knowing what to do and doing it. In this article, I look at the practical side of in-chat apps, what they mean for Microsoft's platform position and why governance through the admin center decides whether the model scales.

Copilot Cowork: Delegating Multi-Step Work in Microsoft 365

The first phase of enterprise AI was session-based: the user asks, the system answers, and the user carries the work forward. Copilot Cowork takes over multi-step work. It builds a plan from a desired outcome, uses email, meetings, files and data from Microsoft 365, works in the background and asks for approval at checkpoints. Admins control billing, plugins, browser use and audit logs. In this article, I explain why this execution layer changes how organizations should measure AI value.

Copilot Search: Finding Context Before Acting on It

Before employees write, analyze or decide, they usually search: for the current deck, the right spreadsheet or the meeting in which a decision fell. Copilot Search answers natural-language questions across Microsoft 365 and connected systems such as ServiceNow, Google Drive, Confluence and Jira. It hands over to Copilot Chat for deeper work, and admins can curate answers for acronyms, bookmarks and people. In this article, I explain why search may drive Copilot adoption more than the next model upgrade.

Chat, Context, Tools, Workspaces: The Four Domains of the Work IQ APIs

The new Work IQ APIs look like a developer release. In practice, they show how Microsoft wants to scale enterprise agents: with a runtime that supplies context, tools and persistent state inside the Microsoft 365 tenant. The API surface covers four domains: Chat, Context, Tools and Workspaces. Billing runs on Copilot Credits with spending limits for admins. In this article, I walk through the four domains and explain what they mean for developers, partners and IT leaders.

Copilot Notebooks: Scoped Context for Project Work

Weak AI results in enterprises often come from weak context, not from weak models. Project material sits in decks, spreadsheets, PDFs, meeting notes and whiteboard photos. Microsoft now makes Copilot Notebooks available to Copilot Chat users as well. A notebook collects selected references, and Copilot answers only from these sources. With Capture, notes from workshops or voice memos also end up in the notebook. In this article, I explain why this scoped project workspace may shape enterprise AI adoption more than the next model release.
